Joan Rivers' Daughter Is Suing The Hospital Where Her Mum Died

The daughter of late comedian Joan Rivers is taking legal action against the New York City hospital where her mother died last year.

Melissa Rivers has filed a lawsuit against the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic in Manhattan.

Rivers, 81, suffered brain damage and later died after her oxygen supply was cut off during a routine operation on 4 September.

Her daughter's lawsuit alleges a series of problems including a 12-minute delay in calling the emergency services.

Melissa Rivers also claims that there was an unauthorised doctor in the room at the time and that one of the doctors took pictures of her mother while she was under sedation.

She said in a statement: "Filing this lawsuit was one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make.

"What ultimately guided me was my unwavering belief that no family should ever have to go through what my mother, Cooper (her own son) and I have been through.

"The level of medical mismanagement, incompetency, disrespect and outrageous behaviour is shocking and frankly, almost incomprehensive.

"Not only did my mother deserve better, every patient deserves better. It is my goal to make sure that this kind of horrific medical treatment never happens to anyone again."

The clinic recently lost accreditation and will no longer get government funding.
