The family of Joan River have released a statement thanking the public for their support.

Over the weekend, it emerged that the Fashion Police star was still be on life support after suffering a heart attack during a surgical procedure last week.

The 81-year-oldwas undergoing surgery on her vocal chords on Thursday when she stopped breathing - and was rushed from the clinic to nearby Mount Sinai Hospital.

[related]Joan's daughter Melissa has since told NBC that they are "keeping (their) fingers crossed" as the entertainer remains in hospital in New York.

She did not comment on Rivers' condition, but thanked fans "for your continued love and support."

Melissa and her 13-year old son Cooper are said to have flown to the Big Apple to be with Joan, with the comedy legend's daughter previously saying: "She is resting comfortably and is with our family.

"We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers."
