John Peel has died while on holiday, age 65.
The legendary Radio 1 presenter was on a working holiday in the resort of Cuzco in Peru, when he suffered a heart attack. He was with his wife Sheila.
John Peel OBE was Radio 1's longest running DJ, with a career spanning 40 years. He is credited with championing numerous bands and genres of music and helping them cross over into the mainstream.
"John Peel was a broadcasting legend," said Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt. "I am deeply saddened by his death as are all who work at Radio 1.
