Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been confirmed to be taking the lead role in a forthcoming drama about CIA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
Veteran political filmmaker Oliver Stone is directing the movie, which does not yet have an official title and is expected to begin filming in Munich in January.
Stone and the movie's producers have apparently purchased the rights for Time Of The Octopus, the bizarrely named novel penned by Snowden's Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena - and also to a factual book on the affair by Guardian journo Luke Harding.
Snowden, 31, now lives in Moscow - having leaked tens of thousands of classified documents to the media in 2013 - revealing extensive surveillance operations by the US.
He is wanted by the US authorities for theft of government property and unauthorised communication of national defence information.
