Just Jack Caught Live
READER REVIEW: Just Jack doesn't disappoint his native north London crowd...
"Theres a little thing called the hit parade, or the singles charts to the kids out there stated 29-year old Jack Allsopp as he took to the stage for his encore at the Bar Academy in Islington, London, on Wednesday (January 17). God knows how, but were at f***ing number 2!.
You suspect that in that throw-away statement, the answer lies. The music-loving public have tapped in to Just Jack 's refreshing modesty and energy. Its just sad that modesty and energy are refreshing these days.
The closest comparison you could find for funky wordsmith Jack would be Mike Skinner, albeit a less bitter version who can rap faster and hold a tune better. However, at this point in his career, the new chart star is still searching for genuine stage presence.
With Jack playing in his own manor it was unsurprising that a large number of vocal friends of his were in the crowd, but he didnt fall in to the trap of lacing his on-stage banter with private jokes, instead he ensured everyone left feeling like they'd gone to school with the fella.
'Starz', 'Disco Friends' and a new track which won't be on the album - the electrotastic 'Goth In The Disco' - were highlights.
Here's the set list in full.
All About You
I Talk Too Much
Symphony Of Sirens
