Are These The Best Cover Versions EVER?

Because sometimes they’re better than the originals…

Cover songs come and go, but sometimes you stumble upon a YouTube gem that sticks in your mind for years, and occasionally that’s how stars like Justin Bieber and Charlie Puth are made. Here at MTV we’re loving all your entries to our Cover Of The Month challenge, so keep them coming, and if you haven’t heard about it yet click hereto find out more.

For now, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite covers of all time, which you can listen to in all their glory below.

Justin Bieber – So Sick by Ne-Yo

Back before his voice broke, Biebs was a little covers machine, and his version of Ne-Yo’s So Sick is so cute it brings us to tears. Someone pass us a tissue.

Alessia Cara – Love Yourself by Justin Bieber

Bet JB never thought other people would be covering HIS songs back when he was a teenybopper, huh? Canada’s latest, greatest export, Alessia Cara, does a great Love Yourself. Check it out.

Calum Scott – Dancing On My Own by Robyn

Robyn’s Dancing On My Own is a pretty big song to take on, but to take it on, have it hit No.2 in the UK Singles Chart and have almost 20 million YouTube views on the video was no biggie for former Britain’s Got Talent star Calum. We’re going to need that tissue again.

Shawn Mendes – Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey

Sure we love Shawn’s original tracks, but you can’t deny he nails a cover, especially this version of LDR’s Summertime Sadness. Baby, you’re the best.

Taylor Swift – Smelly Cat by Phoebe from Friends

Taylor Swift had more amazing covers on her 1989 tour than we can count, but her duet of Smelly Cat with Lisa Kudrow – aka Phoebe from Friends – was our fave. Altogether now: “They won’t take you to the vet…”

Ed Sheeran – Empire State Of Mind by Jay Z

When Ed popped into Radio 1’s Live Lounge, we weren’t sure what to expect, but this cover only confirmed his versatility as an artist. Big up.

Arctic Monkeys – Hold On, We’re Going Home by Drake

Another classic Live Lounge moment, Alex Turner and co. totally nailed this Drake cover. Nice work, boys.

Charlie Puth – Someone Like You by Adele

Charlie was discovered by none other than Ellen DeGeneres thanks to this very cover. We heard that his dreams came true…

Florence + The Machine – You've Got The Love by Candi Staton

Florence’s version of You've Got The Love has become so iconic we practically forgot it WAS a cover. But it is, and a very good one at that.

Nick Jonas – King by Years And Years

We love Nick Jonas. We love Years And Years. We love this cover. The end.
