Justin Bieber Is Accused Of Cultural Appropriation Over New Blonde Dreadlocks
He’s had more hairstyles than your average male popstar, but Justin Bieber has come under fire for his latest ‘do.
Ahead of his iHeartRadio Music Awards performance, the Biebs debuted some blonde dreadlocks on Instagram – and he’s been accused of cultural appropriation by some fans.
While most people can agree that Justin’s newest look isn’t his best, he’s caused quite a bit of controversy online over his choice to sport a traditionally black hairstyle.
Referring to the uproar surrounding Zendaya's dreadlocks at last year's Oscars, Twitter user wrote: “Zendaya gets dreadlocks & she "looks like she smells like weed" Justin Bieber does it & its "trendy" & "different".
While another directly posted to Justin: "Dreadlocks are cultural appropriation. We've taught u this before. Your hair is fine as it was".
This isn't the first time Justin's come under fire in this way, as he received some backlash back in January after getting cornrows.
Still, when Kylie Jenner got the same hate for her own take on the hairstyle last July, Justin rushed to her defense, posting to Instagram: “Saying she's being racist because she has her hair in braids is ridiculous.”
Hmm. Is it really worth causing the upset, though? It can't be that hard to stick to a simple layered fringe.
