Justin Bieber: "I'm Becoming A Man But I'm Still 19"
Teen singer hits back at critics as he wraps up world tour...
“I’ve been out of the public eye really, I’ve been on tour, so no one really knows what I’m doing out here,” the 19 year old singer explained. “I make mistakes growing up as everybody does, I’m not perfect, I’m not a robot. People forget I’m a human being, so I gotta make mistakes and grow from it and grow stronger and that’s what I plan to do.”
Over the last six months Justin has played around 150 shows across the world, all the while subject to intense scrutiny. ““People don’t really get to see me and that I’m really a 19 year old boy,” he said.
“I’m becoming a man but I’m still 19, I’m still finding myself and when I have the media attacking me every day it’s no less of bullying than what happens in schools, these people calling me names and saying things and they don’t know what’s true."
Justin hopes that his upcoming behind-the-scenes film Believe, due out on Christmas Day, will help to change public perception of him: “I think that this movie really shows who I am as a person and that I just wanna help people and inspire the world.”
However, he is able to see the humour in his situation and, recalling one scene in Believe where his mum, Pattie, despairs of his ever baggier trousers, Bieber laughed: “I think a lot of mums want me to pull my pants up.”
During the interview the Canadian pop star took the time to thank his fans for helping Confident, his next single, go to number one on iTunes. “Thank you to all my fans, all my Beliebers out there, you guys are incredible,” he gushed, adding that the song, which features a guest appearance from Chance the Rapper, is “really special to me”.
Justin also revealed his plans for the future stretch far beyond music: “I want to become a young mogul,” he said. ”I want people to respect me for not only music but for making all the right decisions. And sometimes you have to make some wrong ones first.”
