Selfie Boy Became The Unexpected Meme Of Justin Timberlake’s Halftime Show

Iconic.

Justin Timberlake’s performance at the Superbowlhas been well and truly sidelined by the time a teenager in the audience spent a large chunk of time scrolling through his phone.

Because we’re living in 2018, any major televised event spawns at least one meme that goes viral and leaves some poor unsuspecting bystander with a fleeting taste of global fame.

And the Superbowl is no different, with a kid forever known as Selfie Boy working his way into the hearts and minds of the audience by snapping a picture with JT and then seemingly spending the rest of the show playing Candy Crush.

The internet couldn’t have been more fascinated to get to the bottom of what Selfie Boy was actually doing on his phone all that time, and a bunch of weird and wacky suggestions soon racked up thousands of RTs.

13-year-old Ryan McKenna later gave an interview toMinneapolis newspaper the Twin Cities Pioneer inwhich he explained that he was actually trying to open up his camera the entire time.

“I just thought to myself, ‘I’ll never get this opportunity again in my whole life,'” he said. “I just went for it.”
