Kanye West Puts Out Casting Call For ‘Multiracial Women Only’ To Appear In His Yeezy Season 4 Show
The advert has attracted some controversy.
Kanye West has (in a surprising turn of events) courted controversy in his latest casting call, in which he requests ‘multiracial women only’ for his Yeezy Season 4 fashion show.
According to Harper’s Bazaar, Yeezy’s next collection is due to debut on September 7 during New York Fashion Week, with Kanye having conducted casting for the show on Sunday in New York.
Tweeting out an advert before the auditions, Yeezy asked for ‘multiracial women only’, adding ‘no makeup please come as you are’.
However, he quickly faced backlash for his specific requirements, with some users asking: “why only multiracial? [sic]”.
Another asked: “So like....how is he determining this? Is there a board to verify they multiracial? [sic]”, while another added: “do they need to bring their http://ancestry.com dna results to the call or….. [sic]”.
Despite the controversy, New York Daily News reports that ‘thousands of women lined up outside the venue’ for the casting, and were not so critical of the advert.
One, for example, told the NYDN: “Multiracial doesn't mean light skinned. You can be multiracial and have dark skin tones or pale skin tones. It doesn't really matter. If you look at people in line, there are people of all skin colours”.
Another said: “I don't see anything wrong with it because it's his vision. As an artist, if you have a vision, people shouldn't be able to say anything about that vision.”
