Karen Gillan has revealed that she's a big fan ofPeter Capaldi, and would have liked to have worked with him on Doctor Who.

Gillan had the coveted role of Doctor's Assistant alongside Matt Smith from 2010 to 2012, as well as making a surprise appearance in the 2013 Christmas special.

"That would have been amazing [to work with Capaldi]," she said. "I love him as an actor, he's a fellow Scot, but unfortunately I didn't get to do any scenes with him," she told Digital Spy.

The actress went on to speak about her role as intergalactic pirate Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy.

"I was covered in bruises consistently the whole time," Gillan said. "It was a challenge for me because I've never done anything so physical before.

"I can throw a mean punch now. I've never played a baddie before, and she's just a total sadist that has men in headlocks, and that's always fun."

Guardians of the Galaxy is out in the UK July 31.
