Kasabian Live Sunset Acoustic Show: Review
Barclaycard Arctic Disco, Mayrhofen, Austria 04/04/13
2,000 metres up on the stunning slopes of Mayrhofen, rock megastars Kasabian and these freezing festival-goers will never ever forget their acoustic set at Snowbombing 2013.
This was a special performance for so many reasons – seeing one of the best bands on the planet at the top of their game playing their greatest tracks at the top of a beautiful Austrian mountain was genuinely amazing.
And as soon as the lads from Leicester walked onto the Barclaycard Arctic Disco stage erected especially for this exclusive show, they were visibly shocked by the chilling temperature of minus 8 degrees celsius.
"F**k it's cold!" shouted Kasabian's guitar hero Serge Pizzorno the moment he sat in his stool wearing a white bomber jacket almost as bright as the snow.
Frontman Tom Meighan looked cool as ice in all black as he belted out the band's lead single Days Are Forgotten off their latest record Velociraptor! to get the gig underway.
It sounded fantastic and they cracked on with third album favourites Underdog and Where Did All the Love Go? delighting the crowd.
Tom was given warm water and then mulled wine as Serge complained again about the arctic conditions: "F**king hell! Why are we up here? You are mad!" which had everyone facing him in hysterics.
Kasabian then performed a killer cover of Breakfast in America (famously sampled in Gym Class Heroes hit Cupid's Chokehold) but the boys saved the best till last when they began playing a classic by a true Snowbombing god.
With fans singing their hearts out throughout, Fatboy Slim's Praise You was a wonderful surprise to start their indie anthem LSF which sounds as fresh as it did in 2004.
As the sun went down, colourful fireworks lit up the sky to bring this once-in-a-lifetime show to its climax.
Snowbombers were desperate for more, but they will have to wait until tomorrow night when Kasabian headline the legendary Forest Party and really set this year's festival on Fire.
