Katie Holmes Speaks About Divorce: 'I'm Alright'
Actress gives brief response to reporter as she takes Suri out for ice cream...
She popped out to do some shopping with daughter Suri in New York and told a reporter who asked how she was doing: "I'm alright. Thank you."
The New York Daily News reports that the 33-year-old visited Whole Foods and spent some time in an ice cream parlour with six-year-old Suri.
And The Mirror newspaper reports that Katie is determined to get sole custody of Suri - having seen Nicole Kidman "cut out" of the lives of the children she adopted with Tom, 50.
A source said: "Bella and Connor aren't that close to Nicole, and Katie is determined that she won't be cut out of Suri's life.
"Bella and Connor are devoted to their father and Scientology, and Katie saw this first hand, and this is one of the reasons she filed for sole custody.
"Katie will not be relegated to a secondary role in her daughter's life. Period. And she is prepared to fight Tom in court.
"Katie isn't going to back down and she will do whatever it takes to ensure that she raises Suri herself."
Meanwhile, People reports Katie's attorney as denying that she has called an emergency custody hearing.
Jonathan Wolfe told the gossip mag: "Other than her action for divorce, the only pending application filed by Ms Holmes remains her request for an anonymous caption."
And The Mirror also quoted US analyst Lisa Bloom on Katie's choice of legal rottweiler Allan E. Mayefsky.
Bloom said: "She's making it clear she's going to play tough. Cruise is more of a high-profile celebrity than she is, so he has a greater distance to fall if grievances are aired.
"Everyone has dirty laundry they don't want aired. She's saying 'play fair with me or else'… of course, she would choose an experienced and tough lawyer.
"But the fact that she'd choose someone who’s been known to go to the media in the past signals that she might have hired him for that reason."
