MTV Review: Katy B Knocks Her Secret Gig Out Of The Park

Can we be her best friend please?

There’s only one thing better than a Katy B gig. A SECRET Katy B gig - and we’re now going to let you in on this secret so shhhh.

The concert took place onThursday (April 21) as part of the Renault TWINGO Access All Areas campaign, in partnership with Spotify, so music and excitement were very much in the air the whole evening. It was set in one of London’s trendiest venues,Hackney Shapes, which made for a very intimate concert, with just 250 people.

The audience comprised of lucky ticket winners who won after they test drove the cars around London, and what a treat their prize was...The evening kicked off with a great set by DJ Abbie McCarthy, our new favourite DJ by the by.

She not only delivered a setlist made up of EVERY GREATEST R&B/HIP HOP CLASSIC (including Kanye West “Gold Digger” and Usher “Yeah”) she practically performed them too, with the some of the smoothest dance moves you’ll ever see outside of a music video from Usher himself. Soooo smooth. DJ Abbie was definitely more than a warm-up act- she was a main event before the main event.

Her departure would have been more heartbreaking had it not been followed by Katy Brien, known to us as the lovely Katy B. The tiniest girl who can knock out a couple hundred people in one go,with her voice and general adorability that is.

She serenaded us with a fantastic playlist, including her old bangers ('On A Mission', 'Lights On') and teased us with a few of her new tracks from her newly released third album, Honey.New songs included the title track, which wasproduced by the incredibly talented Kaytranada, as well asthe more high tempo 'Who Am I' featuring Craig David. She belted out her songs with heart-wrenching passion that had us all hanging on her every word.

If anyone there wasn’t a Katy B fan to begin with they certainly left as one, absolutely everyone was on their feet dancing and singing along to her new music, which is the true mark of a great gig.
