Katy Perry And John Mayer's First Ever Interview Together!
The creative couple also unveiled new video for 'Who You Love'...
The delightful duo appeared on the show to reveal their new video for new single Who You Love, which they recorded together.
When settling down for the interview John joked about how close they should sit together on the studio sofa so that viewers could see the chemistry between them. “They’ll see chemistry in the video,” Katy said with a smile.
"I had this little chorus for years and it was, 'you love who you love',” explained John. “I thought that was always going to be a great thing someday, to have a song that people could hear and feel that sort of permission.”
John played it to a music producer who then suggested John get girlfriend Katy involved. “The very first thought was you can't do that,” he said. “Then the more I thought about just the music part of it, it made perfect sense. Even if I didn't know Katy, it would have made perfect sense.”
Katy revealed it wasn’t difficult to persuade her to get on board. “It was an easy phone call. It was a text message,” she joked.
Given that they were in a relationship, however, they were wary of collaborating at first. “It’s a pretty big moving target to be a couple and have a song,” admitted John. “But I think there’s an authenticity to it when you hear it.”
Katy agreed: “It transcends us, it’s more about the message of the song.”
And revealing what they did on their first date, Katy shared: “We just went to dinner like a regular couple.”
Unsurprisingly, she also added: “We share music as a love together, that’s a common interest."
