Katy Perry Grew Up In "Strict And Nutty" House
The singer reveals all about her upbringing in a Rolling Stone interview
It’s a well-known fact that Katy Perry’s parents are both freelance ministers, but now the 25-year-old singer has revealed for the first time how this impacted on her upbringing.
Perry told Rolling Stone magazine that life was stern for her as a child, and that her house was ‘strict and nutty’.
‘Speaking in tongues is as normal to me as ‘Pass the salt’,’ Perry told the magazine.
‘A lot of religions use meditation or chanting. It’s a secret, direct prayer language to God. My dad speaks in tongues and my mom interprets it. That’s their gift’.
The superstar also revealed that despite her current fame and fortune, life has not always been so prosperous:
‘Sometimes we ate from the same food bank we used to feed our congregation and I was very embarrassed by that’.
Perhaps rather surprisingly considering she is engaged to infamous lothario Russell Brand, Katy revealed in the interview that casual sex ‘grosses me out’.
