Katy Perry has pinched Justin Bieber's Twitter crown, becoming the most followed person on the website.

At time of press, K-Pez has managed to notch up 46,515, 802 million followers, compared to JB's 46,497,886 million fans.

Justin had been the King of Twitter for the past nine months, after overtakingLady Gaga as the most followed person, who is now in third place with 40.4 million.

US President Barack Obama (39.27m) andTaylor Swift (36.2m) complete the top five.

Perry - who released third album Prism last week - is yet to comment on her new title, but did take to Twitter to thank fans for supporting her new music.

John Mayer's lady wrote: "GOOD morning! (from TOKYO) I woke up to the news that we are #1 with the #PRISM debut & become the biggest record by a pop female this year!

"For that I say THANK YOU. I hope you are enjoying all the colors #PRISM has to offer. I promise to continue to give back...Tour next year.."

The 29-year old added: "...And so many opportunities to be a light very soon. Your love & support for the music means the world to me. X"
