Katy Perry 'Refused To Lie About New Single'
Perry has revealed people told her to say Part Of Me was about Russell...
The Firework singer, who split from Russell last December, has told our US Team that she refused to lie about the inspiration behind the track - which Perry claims she wrote long before her divorce from the funnyman.
Speaking of the song, Katy explained: "I wrote it two years ago, which is funny because everybody is like, 'God, it sounds so current',
"Some people that I work with were like, 'You should just say you wrote it a couple of weeks ago'. I'm like, 'I'm not a douchebag, I'm going to tell the truth'.
"I wrote it two years ago when I was writing and recording Teenage Dream, [but] it didn't feel right on the record."
The 27-year old recently admitted that Part Of Me was a "special song", adding: "It feels like my life plays out with these songs.
"I feel like I'm in some kind of weird Truman Show where I'm like, 'Why is this single appropriate now and it wouldn't have been appropriate then?' It's just so crazy."
Last week, Katy claimed her third album would be much edgier following the break-down of her 14-month marriage, telling Interview magazine: "My music is about to get real f****** dark. I'll be shoe-gazing."
