Katy Perry Releases Olympic Anthem 'Rise' & It's EPIC
"...because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite."
Time will tell a lot quicker than we thought everyone because - SURPRISE! - Katy Perry's just dropped her epic brand new single 'Rise'.
Just earlier this week Katy was brought up in the messy Calvin Harris/Taylor Swift dramz after he refused to be labelled the bad guy in their break up after Taylor's team revealed she wrote the demo of 'This Is What You Came For'. Annoyed that it all came out he tweeted: "I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it."
Eep. To which Katy soon after responded, tweeting a sassy GIF of Hilary Clinton followed by a retweet of her 2015 tweet: "Time, the ultimate truth teller".
Did that mean we'll soon hear all about it in her new music? Well, here's our first taste...or maybe not. Today Katy released her rousing new single, which is being used as the theme for the forthcoming Olympic Games and probably might not feature on her new album.
Featuring empowering lyrics like: "When, when the fire's at my feet again/And the vultures all start circling/They're whispering, 'you're out of time'/ But still I rise," read into it what you will or just enjoy the fact that KATY PERRY IS BACK.
In a statement the 'Roar' hit maker revealed: "This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite."
"I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world. I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honored that NBC Olympics has chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games."
