Katy Perry's Roar Dropped As NFL Team's Anthem
Cincinnati Bengals change their matchday theme after protests...
Katy Perry's Roar has been axed as the matchday anthem of American football team the Cincinnati Bengals following protests from fans.
The current UK No 1 single was the subject of a social media backlash after it was unveiled as the pre-game, in-game and post-game song at the Bengals' Paul Brown Stadium on Monday.
Jeff Berding, the NFL team's director of sales and marketing, told the Wall Street Journal: "I think some fans proved that there's an expectation that when the team takes the field, there should be more of a hard-rock, classic-rock song, and I know that's what we're going to do this game.
"Katy Perry is not going to be the last song you hear before the team takes the field."
Some fans had even begun to complain via Twitter about the song choice before last weekend's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers was over.
