The 25-year-old rugby player spoke to The Sun just before Kelly, 33, was spotted with what could have been a diamond ring on her wedding finger.
He said: "We've always spoken and we've always cared about each other. It's about getting re-acquainted and making it work.
"She's a very positive person, she's not a big drinker and she's very supportive. I don't see how that could be a bad thing.
"She's very positive about what I need to do over the next couple of months and knows I'm focused on my rugby.
"It's been working fine so far. She's good for me so it's all good."
