Stars Turn Out for KiDULTHOOD Premiere

British movie KiDULTHOOD premiered in Londons Leicester Square last night, with several UK stars in attendance.
Dizzee Rascal, who appears on the KiDULTHOOD soundtrack, Terri Walker, Blak Twang and Peaches Geldof all braved the cold to attend the premiere of the much talked about movie that depicts the gritty underbelly of young urban life in London.
The stars of the film were also in attendance, including Aml Ameen (who plays Trife), Femi Oyeniran (Moony), Red Madrell (Alisa) and Jamie Winstone (Becky) " daughter of British big screen heavyweight Ray Winstone.
Writer and star of KiDULTHOOD Noel Clarke introduced the film, dedicating the production to all the haters and doubters out there that told me Id never make it.
Clarke also shared with the premiere audience that an ex-girlfriend of his fell off a stool laughing when he told her that he wanted to be an actor. She wasnt invited tonight, he added.
A fair amount of controversy has surrounded KiDULTHOOD as a result of the explicit content. The film follows a handful of teenagers from London as they go about their business on a day off from school following the suicide of a classmate who was being bullied.
Drugs, guns, sex and violence all come into play, as does the baddest of bad language, so the backlash is unsurprising. However, the film seems to achieve a sense of realism that previous films about young urban life have not.
Whether or not the film influences unsavoury behaviour, and whether the film gives out more of a positive or negative message is all open to debate. Either way, its an enjoyable ride.
Judge for yourself, KiDULTHOOD hits cinemas nationwide this week.
