Kiesza: "I Can Totally Imagine Ed Sheeran In A Kilt!"
Get pumped for tonight's MTV EMA with a look inside Kiesza's performance, red carpet outfit and debut album!
By Georgina Langford
With the 2014 MTV EMA just hours away, we caught up with one of our amazing performers, Kiesza, to hear how she's feeling about the big night. From her red carpet look, to which of the male attendees she'd most like to see in a kilt - hey, we are in Glasgow, after all - read on for all the goss...
MTV UK: Can you reveal anything about your EMA performance? Are you nervous?
Kiesza: I’m not nervous, I’m excited! We’re still in rehearsals, getting ready for it, so I can’t reveal too much, but I’m going to be singing, I’m going to be dancing, so I can tell you that! As for what I’m wearing, you are going to have to hold out to see that. I’m still thinking about the red carpet.
MTV UK: Do you enjoy getting dressed up for big events?
Kiesza: I love getting dressed up, and I always like trying out different things; I don’t always necessarily want to wear a dress just because everyone else is. I like to be creative with my red carpet outfits, but equally, sometimes I am just in the mood to go all out with a ballgown and heels – but only If you get me on the right day! To be honest, I’m more of a sneaker person. My legs hurt if I wear heels for too long.
MTV UK: You’re in Scotland for the EMA, so which famous gentleman do you think could rock a kilt on the red carpet?
Kiesza: Let me think…I can totally imagine Ed Sheeran in a kilt, but I want to choose someone who you would never expect to wear one…I’d like to see one of the boybands all show up in kilts. That would be hilarious.
You're what I want for sure
Don't stop I just want you more
Babe you are my only cure
Don't stop until I make you mine
You can take all my time
Don't stop I feel so alive
Baby you blow my mind
Why stop when there's so much more
Baby just show me how to
Look I'll give you so much more
All that you have is lining
Look never felt this before
Baby I thought you want it
Everybody knows, body-knows, body-knows
If we could all fall in love together
If we could all fall in love together
If we could all fall in love together
We'd have no enemies, we'd have no enemies
If we could all fall in love together
If we could all fall in love together
If we could all fall in love together
We'd have no enemies, we'd have no enemies
Ah-ooh, ah-ooh, ah-ooh
Lights up, let me take you down
That's what I want right now
Free-styling make me go wild
Baby just turn me around
All that I can say for you
Show me what you can do
Don't stop me I can't refuse
Take me the whole way through
Why stop when there's so much more
Baby just show me how to
Look I'll give you so much more
All that you have is lining
Look never felt this before
Baby I thought you want it
Everybody knows, body-knows, body-knows
If we could all fall in love together
If we could all fall in love together
If we could all fall in love together
We'd have no enemies, we'd have no enemies
If we could all fall in love together
If we could all fall in love together
If we could all fall in love together
We'd have no enemies, we'd have no enemies
Ah-ooh, ah-ooh, ah-ooh
MTV UK: Since your career exploded with 'Hideaway', it’s been a crazy year for you, does it feel like all your hard work has paid off?
Kiesza: Definitely; before 'Hideaway', it’s not like I worked hard and then I stopped working, I worked hard and then I worked ten times harder! So it does feel like it has totally paid off, but it also feels like the beginning of this journey for me, there’s a lot of work still to be done to get to the next level and to keep building and moving forward.
MTV UK: The title track of your forthcoming album, Sound Of A Woman, is totally epic. Would you describe yourself as a drama queen?
Kiesza: No, not at all! I wouldn’t say that song is about drama, it is more real. It’s more about a situation that a lot of women find themselves in, where they are maybe afraid to stand up and speak their mind or afraid to walk out of a situation that might not be right for them, for fear of either being alone or just sort of believing that things will change, even when you know in your heart that they won’t.
MTV UK: It’s a euphoric record and very uplifting – but a lot of the lyrics are really sad! Was that contrast intentional?
Kiesza: I think what happened is that without trying to, I basically regurgitated an entire relationship on this album. I feel like every aspect of what happened in that relationship is included on the record, from falling in love, being in too deep, when you haven’t noticed anything wrong with that person – that’s ‘Hideaway’, when they take you into a whole different reality – to when you are both in it together, you are in love and it’s really passionate. But then songs like ‘Giant in your Heart’ are about the end, when you want to move on.
But even when I run
It's like I can't get over you, over you,
Over you, Over you
And every time I try and tell you why
I turn my face and tears run down my eyes it's over now
Over now
Baby it's over now, over now
So give me all the magic
And give me all the magic that we made
It's like a giant in my heart babe
This love is greater then the heartbreak
So give me back the moments
Just give me back the moments that we made
It's like a giant in my heart babe
This love is greater then the heartbreak, yeah
What's the point of going through
All the pain I'm in with you
What am I supposed to do
In my heart there's only you
Baby I can't lose you
I'm lying to myself that I'm OK
But when I see your photograph
I'm still not over you, over you
Over you, over you
And every time I will your love away
It comes back in a rush reminding me
It's over now, over now
Over now, Over now
So give me all the magic
Just give me all the magic that we made
It's like a giant in my heart babe
This love is greater then the heartbreak
So give me back the moments
Just give me back the moments that we made
It's like a giant in my heart babe
This love is greater then the heartbreak, oh oh
What's the point of going through
All the pain I'm in with you
What am I supposed to do
In my heart there's only you
Baby I can't lose you
I tried my best and I'll confess I'll love with less
I gave the most and took the loss from what I chose
I fought for you you lead me to a painful truth
And now I wait without a heart to save
My Love, my Love, my Love, my Love
My Love, my Love, my Love, my Love
My Love, my Love, my Love, my Love
My Love, my Love, my Love, my Love
There's no escaping you
What's the point of going through
All the pain I'm in with you
What am I supposed to do
In my heart there's only you
Baby I can't lose you
