5 Celeb Couples Who Eloped: Including Kim Kardashian and Chrissy Teigen
Will Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin follow in their footsteps?
There are new rumours every day that Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin have skipped the big wedding bonanza and instead opted for a quick courthouse moment or intimate ceremony in the exotic tropics.
While these stories do appear to be simply that - rumours - we can't help but imagine the dozens of possible weddings they could have already had, given their celeb power and bank balances that allow them to travel to the other side of the world unnoticed if they so wished.
Although, with so many eyes on them, could Bieber and Baldwin actually get away with it? Could anyone on the A-list level?
Well, yes. It has happened many times before, and some of the names we're about to drop you won't believe...
Margot Robbie is wonderfully mysterious. Despite spending her 20s in London as a famous actress, she often tells stories of living a very normal life as though she goes unnoticed. So we were hardly surprised when she eloped with husband Tom Ackerley.
The couple tied the knot down under in December 2016, with an intimate 50-person ceremony in Byron Bay. Phones were banned so news never got out, and we’ve still to see any pictures of the wedding almost two years on. We have seen the ring though, as Margot posted a picture of that on Instagram, with a cheeky double-take picture that’d have you thinking she’s giving everyone the middle finger. She probably is.
Kimye eloped? But what about the months - or years, even - of intense planning we watched on Keeping Up?
Well, Kim Kardashian has eloped - but not with husband Kanye West. No, you see, that was simply a wedding overseas. Mrs Kardashian West first married in 2000, when she eloped with music producer Damon Thomas, much to the dismay of her momager Kris Jenner and the rest of her family, who are always involved in each others' business.
The super-secret wedding happened in Las Vegas when Kim was just 19 years old and the marriage lasted several years before Thomas filed for divorce in 2003. Kim later revealed that the marriage was abusive, both physically and mentally, so thank goodness she got out when she did.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher
Ah, what a couple. The world were happily surprised when former onscreen lovers Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis ended up together IRL years later, and as two of Hollywood’s most famous residents their relationship quickly became headline news.
It’s no surprise then that they kept things under wraps when it came to getting hitched, is it? The private couple quietly married in July 2015 in California, in a ceremony that still remains a secret, and then had a low-key honeymoon in Yosemite National Park with their daughter. Just like Margot Robbie, no pictures from the wedding have ever been shared and probably never will be.
Ashton later described the entire thing as “a ninja effort” on The Ellen Show, revealing that he was posting other things on social media to avoid the media catching on to anything. A couple with a plan!
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden
After Nicole Richie introduced Cameron Diaz to her brother-in-law, they didn’t wait very long before marrying in a top-secret wedding. Diaz walked down the aisle to husband Benji Madden in a private ceremony just 17 days after getting engaged!
Taking place on a whim at Diaz’s Beverly Hills house, no pictures have ever surfaced and details surrounding the day remain a mystery. The notoriously private actress had previously dismissed the idea of ever getting married though, so just knowing she later found love true enough to change her mind is sweet enough for us.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
Before their extravagant wedding ceremony took place in Lake Como, Italy, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen made a surprise pit stop at City Hall in New York to get married there first. Why, you ask? Well, the courthouse wedding was totally unplanned and actually happened for legal reasons more than anything else, as Chrissy later said: “We are dumb and didn’t realise that our Italian wedding wouldn’t be recognised unless we had a real ceremony in New York City.” Ah, the joys of weddings abroad!
