Kim Kardashian Explains Her ‘Homophobic’ Comment Towards Tyson Beckford: “All My Best Friends Are Gay”
Kim Kardashian explains herself to Big Boy on Real 92.3.
Kim Kardashian has been called out for being 'homophobic' over comments made towards Tyson Beckford after the model body-shamed her.
It all started on Instagram when Tyson commented under a photo of the star, saying: “Sorry I don’t care for it personally,” and “She is not real, doctor f*cked up on her right hip [sic].”
And Kim clapped back on the ‘gram, commenting: “Sis we all know why you don’t care for it,” and the use of the word ‘sis’ made the world wide web call her out for being homophobic.
But talking to Big Boy on Real 92.3, Kim clarified that she believes she wasn’t being homophobic with her choice of words.
“Really, dude? Like, you’re going to body-shame me? Like, okay. Okay. Okay, sis. You’re going to body-shame me?” she told Big Boy.
“People were sending me stuff on his page, he keeps on going and going and going, and I’m just like, dude, that’s so female lame to me. That’s just lame to me.
“And for anyone to say that I am homophobic with the comment of saying sis? All my best friends are gay, I support the community, I love the community, they love me, that has nothing to do with this,” she said.
But people on Twitter believe that the use of the term ‘sis’, which is short for ‘sister’ was Kim’s way of ‘outing’ the model-slash-actor, and that she had a right to defend herself, but she just went about it in completely the wrong way.
Another thought her use of the defence that she supports the LGBT+ community, and isn’t homophobic because “all my best friends are gay”, is ignorant.
Homophobic micro-aggressions are very real, and happen on a daily basis to members of the gay community, and this is just an example of one.
Tyson may not be a member of the LGBTQ+ community himself, but implying another person’s sexuality on a public platform in a negative light is problematic.
Maybe Kim should ask her gay BFFs what is and isn’t okay to say?
