Want To Get Into The Music Industry? KSI Gives You His Advice
The YouTuber-turned-rapper shares some words of wisdom about breaking it in the biz...
Earlier this year when he released his debut LP Keep Up, YouTube star KSI shot straight to No.1 on iTunes, ahead of Adele and David Bowie. Having built a solid online fanbase as a game commentator and all round funny guy, KSI - real name Olajide Olatunji - branched out into music and his subscribers followed suit.
Fresh off the release of his brand new single 'Friends With Benefits', KSI came into MTV to tell us how to break it in the music industry...
"I'd say the best way is to try and kiss a lot of ass," he said, "that gets you quite far. Nah I'm just kidding! On a real - best way to get into music - just do it. I guess learn instruments and stuff.
"I don't know 'cause the way I got into music is through YouTube so I feel like I've kind of done it a different way to how most people do it. If you enjoy doing music just do music just do it, like that's it, just start and eventually people will just catch on.
Recalling a similar career path, he singled out Post Malone's rise: "[he] was in a group with people like Sky Does MineCraft, these are all YouTubers that play MineCraft and all that and he just did music while enjoying life and literally one song blew him up and it was just him just randomly doing it.
"Now he's frigging touring with Justin Bieber and stuff, so literally yeah, anyone can blow up whenever - just make music! That's it, that's probably the best way."
