Kylie Jenner Is Facing Online Backlash For Those ‘Self Made' Billionaire Claims

The internet isn't totally convinced

Kylie Jenner is officially the world’s youngest self-made billionaire but there are a bunch of people out there who aren’t totally comfortable with the implication that she made her money without additional help.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has made a roaring success of her Kylie Cosmetics collection, with the brand being estimated to have generated $360 million in sales in the last year alone.

While she’s obviously done hugely well for herself, some fans are pointing out that she didn't grow her business out of thin air and have a particular problem with the term “self-made” not quite fitting in with her story.

“Kylie Jenner is proof that all you really need to succeed in life is inherit a few hundred million dollars and already have preexisting international fame from your parents and siblings, and then it’s possible to make something of yourself. Clearly an inspiration to us all,” one person wrote.

Another added: “Kylie Jenner is the world's youngest billionaire. But, being born into money and fame isn't "#SelfMade," it's the literal definition of #privilege,” while even Dictionary.com threw some shade in her direction.

“Haven't we gone over this? Self-made: Having succeeded in life unaided.”

Speaking out about becoming a billionaire earlier than Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, she recentlytold Forbes: "I didn't expect anything. I did not foresee the future. But [the recognition] feels really good. That's a nice pat on the back.”

This comes as Kylie previously insisted to Paper Magazine that “none” of her money is inherited and that her parents have always encouraged her to make her own way in the world.
