Alejandro Director Defends Use Of Religion In Video

As GaGa goes to her sister’s graduation…

The director of Lady GaGa’s Alejandro video has defended the use of religious symbolism in the pop promo.

Since being released on Tuesday the clip has been criticised by religious groups and star Katy Perry who wrote “Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.”
The video mixes Catholic iconography with S&M and sexual themes. GaGa is shown sucking on rosary beads and wearing a latex nuns robe.
Fashion photographer Steven Klein, who directed the controversial short film, told MTV News in the US:

The religious symbolism is not meant to denote anything negative, but represents the character's battle between the dark forces of this world and the spiritual salvation of the Soul,"
“Thus at the end of the film, she chooses to be a nun, and the reason her mouth and eyes disappear is because she is withdrawing her senses from the world of evil and going inward towards prayer and contemplation.”
In other GaGa news she’s been photographed at her sister graduation wearing a huge black hat, veil, huge platforms and a white lace outfit.
