China To Ban Lady GaGa, Katy Perry And Beyoncé?

Some of their tracks have been deemed a threat to Chinese culture…

Katy Perry, Kylie Minogueand Bruno Marsare among artists whose tracks could be banned in China due to apparent “vulgar content”.

Songs by the chart-toppers appear on a blacklist of 100 tracks from China's Ministry of Culture, which they are considering banning from all of the country’s music websites.

The ministry has announced that all the tracks must be submitted for mandatory government screening or they will be banned and removed from China’s legal streaming and download services.

Lady GaGa has had a busy week ahead of her opening slot at this Sunday’s VMAs – she has been named the 11th most powerful female in the world by Forbes magazine. The Oprah Winfreyand Beyoncé.

GaGa will open the 2011 MTV VMAs, which will be filmed at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday 28 August and shown on MTV UK on Monday 29 August.
