Gaga Talks Tom Daley On Chatty Man
Star discusses sporting politics and David Bowie with Alan Carr...
The outlandish pop star admitted that she'd been moved to send 19-year-old Tom a message of support after he revealed this week that he is in a same-sex relationship.
But perhaps not realising that diving is featured in the Summer Olympics, she went on to denounce participation in next year's Winter Olympics due to host country Russia's homophobic laws.
She said: "Yeah of course. To be honest, I don't think that we should be going to the Olympics at all, I don't know if my opinion is not highly regarded, in terms of the amazing champions and people that are rehearsing and training for the event, I mean I would never take anything away from their hard work, I just think it is absolutely wrong for so many countries to send money and economy in the way of a country that doesn't support gays.
"Sorry, now I'm getting serious, but it's not just that they don't support the gay community, they pepper spray and beat them in Russia, and I went to Russia for the Born This Way ball, and I was really excited to be there, because I felt it was an important place to bring the message of the album, but it made me very sad to see the pain that some of the gay kids are in in Russia, and for the world to send their finest for the Olympics, I just, I can't, it just feels so wrong and sad.
"I hate saying that, because I'm so excited for those like Tom Daley to go and to win and to rejoice."
She also expounded at length on how she relates to pop's most-famous chameleon David Bowie.
Asked if she'd met her hero, she replied: "No, I have not met him yet, it's okay – you know I'm such a big fan, that it's kind of this weird amazing thing that I haven't met him yet, he's sort of like an alien prince.
"He still runs my universe as well, like, every morning I wake up and I think 'what would Bowie do?'
"But I guess for him it was a sense of perfection, these things he created, it was self expression for him but also a sense of protection for who he personally is as David, and for me, this is a sense of protection, I'm not really protecting myself actually because myself is who you see every day, and my inability to rest in one soul is just who I am, I’ve just always kind of thought life's too short to wear one hat, and I don't know if it makes me crazy or not, but it's just the way the f**king cookie crumbles in my house."
And Gaga also joked with her interviewer about being on My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
Carr asked: "Why don't you get a holiday home here?"
To which she replied: "It's funny; do you know that I don't even have a regular home? The song Gypsy is real, I actually am a gypsy, I actually just go from hotel to hotel, I have one rental in New York, but I don't own a home actually."
The host asked her: "Do you know there's a show on Channel 4 called My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding?"
And she answered: "I'm going to be on it next season... I've seen some of those dresses, they're pretty fab."
