Harry Styles To Host 2019 Met Gala Alongside Lady Gaga And Serena Williams
The Metropolitan Museum Of Art have announced the most ~perfect~ theme
The Metropolitan Museum Of Art has announced that next year’s theme will be Camp: Notes on Fashion and will take inspiration from Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay about the term “camp” essentially being the “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”
Andrew Bolton, Costume Institute curator revealed: “We are going through an extreme camp moment. It felt very relevant to the cultural conversation to look at what is often dismissed as empty frivolity but can be actually a very sophisticated and powerful political tool, especially for marginalised cultures.
“Whether it’s pop camp, queer camp, high camp or political camp – Trump is a very camp figure – I think it’s very timely.”
While Lady Gaga’s love of making a grand fashion statement makes her a pretty obvious choice for the position of host, tennis legend Serena Williams has also been experimenting with power fashion over the last year and is an interesting addition to the team.
As for Harry Styles, he’s made a name for himself through expressive fashion, with his passion for 70s flares, psychedelic prints, and floral suits all explaining why he’s been selected to front the gender pushing theme.
The 2019 Met Gala, sponsored by Gucci, will take place on 6 May 2019, so attendees have plenty of time to dream up a bunch of wonderful and extra camp creations.
We can't wait.
