'A Star Is Born' And More Movies You Probably Didn’t Realise Were Remakes
Unless you’re 100 years old and have a good knowledge of every movie that Hollywood has ever made, there’s a good chance you’ll be unaware of which films out there aren’t originals.
That’s right, movies including A Star Is Born, The Sound Of Music, and Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey are all actually remakes of previous projects, proving that there’s nothing wrong with taking a pre-existing idea and making it better.
Dinner For Shmucks
The 2010 comedy, starring Paul Rudd and Steve Carrell, is actually a remake of a French film made in 1998 called Le Dîner de Cons. The plot centres around a rising executive who has to bring the biggest buffoon he can find to a monthly dinner in order to boost his career.
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
Everyone's childhood favourite was made in 1993 but was technically adapted from a film called The Incredible Journey back in 1963. The original movie didn’t have actors voicing the animals and was instead driven by a narrator.
The Birdcage
The 1996 movie became famous for pushing boundaries, with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane playing two gay characters who were raising a son together. The idea for the film came from a French/Italian production called La Cage Aux Folles that was produced a decade earlier.
The Sound Of Music
The musical is one of the most well-known on Planet Earth, but only came to fruition after a German film called The Trapp Family was released back in 1956. It was this project that went on to inspire the musical over nine years later.
Three Men And A Baby
The 1987 movie follows the plot of three bachelors who take on the role of father when one of them has a child. The film spawned four remakes since then, but was itself adapted from 1985 French comedy called Three Men And A Cradle.
A Star Is Born
The 2018 movie, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, is a remake of the 1937 film of the same name. It centres around a hard-drinking musician who discovers and falls in love witha young singer, while attempting tobattle his own personal issues as her star rises.
