Lady Gagahas confirmed Applause will be the first single to be taken from her eagerly anticipated album, ARTPOP.

Following speculation surrounding the single title after Gaga's make-up artist Tara Savelo posted a [uuid=9b3705e2-ad31-4535-a4f0-9618a131cf86]cryptic snap teasing Applause[/uuid], the Poker Face star has also release the artwork for the track.

Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the cover sees a close-up of Lady G as a pierrot, with blue, red and orange make-up smeared over her white-painted face.

She concluded: "I'm from New York. I've worked since I was a five-year-old to be a performer. All my life. I deserve to be here. I'm ready."

Fans can get their first taste of Applause at the 2013 MTV VMAs, where Lady G will perform the tune for the first time.

Applause is due for release on August 19, with her Little Monsters now able to pre-order her ARTPOP record on the same day, rather than the original date of September 1.

ARTPOP, which serves as the follow-up to Gaga's 2011 LP Born This Way, will then be available from November 11.
