Lady Gaga Has A New No 1 Fan... And You'll Never Guess Who It Is
Veteran actress can hardly contain her excitement about working with pop star...
The 66-year-old actress was buttonholed by E! News at PaleyFest and was gushing with her praise for the Mother Monster.
She said: "I'm a big fan of hers, my jaw dropped when I saw her on the Oscars. Absolutely dropped!
"And then my sister, she said 'aren't you with it?', she said she did this whole great album with Tony Bennett. So I've been listening to that."
And she hinted that she thought Gaga could occupy a very special place in the musical landscape.
"I don't wanna say anything about Liza and Barbra, but there's a whole niche that's there that's available for her - and she's just... I can't believe she's only 28."
However not everyone is quite so excited by Gaga's recent venture into the world of musicals.
Musical theatre legend Stephen Sondheim has told The Times that he thought her rendition of songs from The Sound Of Music at the Oscars was a "travesty".
"On the Academy Awards she was a travesty," he declared.
"It was ridiculous, as it would be from any singer who treats that music in semi-operatic style. She had no relationship to what she was singing.
"What people liked was her versatility."
We hope Kathy Bates doesn't catch you saying that!
