Sabotage Attempt Made On Lana Del Rey's Oscar Song
Singer shortlisted for Best Original Song Oscar nomination...
The Oscars is one of the most competitive awards ceremonies on the planet and while sneaky tactics are usually reserved for the film categories, Lana Del Reyhas found herself on the receiving end of some Oscar backstabbing.
Lana’s song, The Great Gatsby earlier this year and was even used in the film’s trailer. It has now been selected - along with 74 other tracks - for the Best Original Song long-list.
The Academy music selection committee has one month to whittle that list down to five nominees, who will be revealed on 16 January 2014.
However, Deadline reports that someone sent an anonymous letter to members of the committee saying that Lana’s song is not eligible to be nominated.
The letter contained a printout to a fake online article, which stated that due to the change in The Great Gatsby’s release date, the song was disqualified.
Warner Bros, who produced the film, have now set the record straight with the committee and Lana’s song remains a hot contender but attempts to identify the culprit have proved inconclusive.
