The Transgender Tipping Point: Laverne Cox On Time Magazine Cover
Time Magazine make up for leaving Cox off their Top 100
Laverne Cox, one of the most talked about actors of the moment, has been put on the front cover of Time magazine. And rightly so, seeing as they made the error of missing her off their Top 100 list last month.
Cox, a transgender actor plays probably our favourite character in Orange Is The New Black, Sophia Burset. For those not in the know (and if not why not?), Sophia works as a resident hairdresser and beautician for her co inmates, forging unlikely friendships and generally being the godmother of making the best of a bad situation.
After being missed off the Top 100 Influential List released by Time last month, fans were (rightly) irked off. The hastag #whereislaurencox started trending, and Time have responded accordingly, by putting Laverne on the cover, looking fabulous. In the feature she highlights some of the real issues that affect the trans community, saying “If someone needs to express their gender in a way that is different, that is OK, and they should not be denied healthcare. They should not be bullied. They don’t deserve to be victims of violence.” Respect.
Orange Is The New Black Season Two will be premiered on Netflix on Friday 6th of June.
