“Manchester, I Love You” - Liam Gallagher Dedicates First Solo Gig To Manchester Attack Victims

A week after Manchester was hit by a suicide bomb attack, Liam Gallagher said that “normal service had resumed” as he took to the stage for a special fundraising event in the city.

His first solo gig, Liam played eight new songs from his upcoming solo album 'As You Were' – and six Oasis songs – in a special show at the O2 Ritz Manchester.

Chants of “Stand up for the 22” swirled around the 1,400-capacity venue, as Gallagher looked on and applauded.

Speaking with the Manchester Evening News last week, Liam said: "I want to try and help pick people up. People like me, doing what we do, it's our duty to give people a good time." He didn’t fail.

‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’, ‘Morning Glory’ and ‘Be Here Now’, the latter featuring former Oasis guitarist Bonehead, were all played to an ecstatic reaction.

Elsewhere, the crowd, which had members from Manchester bands Courteeners and Blossoms, as well as Coronation Street stars and boxer Ricky Hatton in attendance, warmly received Liam’s new material.

An a capella version of ‘Live Forever’ closed the set. “Manchester, I love you. Look after yourselves,” Liam said as he departed the stage.

The (inevitable?) Oasis reunion might not have happened last night (May 30) as many would have hoped, but that didn’t stop the crowd from bursting into a rendition of ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, a song that’s taken on a new importance since the attack as a symbol of Manchester's unbreakable spirit, after the gig had ended.

Proceeds from the concert, which sold out within minutes, went to theWe Love Manchester Emergency Fund, organised by Manchester City Council in partnership with the British Red Cross and the Manchester Evening News (MEN). You can donate here.

Liam Gallagher’s 'As You Were' will be released in October this year, and he’ll be playing shows in London, Glasgow and Dublin in the next few weeks.
