Life Of Pi Oscar 'An Insult To Cinematography'
High profile DP in sweary rant over Academy Award...
A high-profile Hollywood director of photography has launched a scathing attack on the award for best cinematography going to Life Of Piat The Oscars.
Christopher Doyle, whose credits include Hero and Magic Mike, launched into a foul-mouthed rant when asked about the award going to Claudio Miranda (pictured) during an interview with BlouinArtinfo.
"I'm trying to work out how to say this most politely, and no offence to - I don't know him (Miranda) personally - but what a total f**king piece of s**t," he said.
"I'm sure he's a wonderful guy and I'm sure he cares so much, but since 97 per cent of the film is not under his control, what the f**k are you talking about cinematography... I think it's a f**king insult to cinematography.
"I'm sure he's a wonderful person, I'm sure he cares so much. But what it says to the real world is it's all about us, we have the money, we put the money in, and we control the image.
"And I say f**k you, w**kers. Are you f**king kidding? That's not cinematography. That's control of the image by the powers that be....
"You've lost cinema. This is not cinema and it's not cinematography. It's not cinematography."
Doyle's objection to the award centres on the fact that the hit Ang Lee movie was highly digitally modified.
And he added: "If somebody manipulated my image that much, I wouldn't even turn up, because sorry, cinematography? Really?"
