13 Celebs You Never Knew Went To Uni And What They Studied
These celebs are smarty pants...
1. Rebel Wilson - University of South Wales
Rebel attended Australia's University of New South Wales, and left with two certificates; a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Performance Studies (which worked out to be quite linked to a career, really, didn't it) and a Bachelor of Laws (not so much).
2. Elizabeth Banks - University of Pennsylvania
Our favourite commentator earned herself a Master of Fine Arts in 1998 from the American Conservatory Theatre (fancy), and attended the University of Pennsylvania (where she met her future husband on day one - he proposed ten years later). She graduated 'Magna cum Laude', meaning 'with great distinction' with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Theatre Arts. Nice one.
3. Emma Watson - Brown University
Expecto Diploma! Hogwarts' model student Hermione Granger was just as studious IRL, as alongside all that fabulous acting, Miss Watson managed to graduate from an Ivy League University with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature. What a magical lady.
4. Mindy Kaling - Dartmouth College
Mindy attended Dartmouth college to study Playwriting, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. She apparently also spent her time at college generally being hilarious; creating a comic strip for the newspaper, writing for their humour magazine, and starting an a-capella group called The Rockapellas. Keen.
5. Lisa Kudrow - Vassar College
In a pretty un-Phoebe move, Lisa studied Biology at Vassar College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. She apparently intended to do as her Daddio did and study headaches - and even worked on his team for eight years while breaking into the acting game, apparently. Then a little show called Friends came along…
Lisa gave a commencement address at the college in 2010.
6. Lily Collins - University of Southern California
When Lily allegedly became tired of the socialite life (sigh, don’t we all) she headed off to celeb-filled USC - University of Southern California - to study broadcast journalism. However, big big film roles started coming her way during her second year, so she dropped out to focus on the movies (and achieving major brow goals).
7. Zac Efron - University of Southern California, and Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts
Zacky attended the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in California, a community college, before being recently accepted into the University of Southern California - but he’s deferred his placement to be able to do films and stuff for a while instead, so may well end up with a 19 year old roomie in about five years.
8. Kourtney Kardashian - Southern Methodist University and University of Arizona
Perhaps ironically - as she now has most nanoseconds of her life broadcast on global television and social media accounts for the world to see - Kourtney is said to have failed two classes at University because she was too nervous to give speeches. After two years at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, she enrolled at University of Arizona in Tucson where she majored in Theatre Arts and minored in Spanish. So there ya go.
9. Lupita Nyongo - Hampshire College
In a rare case of “ooh I did a degree that turned out to be relevant to my career”, Lupita attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and earned a degree in film in 2003. That worked out pretty well for her, then.
10. Whitney Port - University of Southern California
Whitney majored in Gender Studies, before seemingly deciding that a career in fashion was more up her street and securing internships at WWD and W after she graduated with her degree in 2007.
11. Eva Longoria - Texas A&M
Eva headed down to Texas A&M, Kingsville, to earn an impressive Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology (which, according to Wikipedia is “a scientific study of human or non-human body movement. Kinesiology addresses physiological, biomechanical, and psychological mechanisms of movement”). After Uni, she allegedly entered a talent show in LA, where she was spotted by a theatrical agent. Snazzy.
12. Natalie Portman - Harvard University
Natters enrolled at Harvard in 1999 to study Psychology, and completed her degree in 2003. While at Uni she casually appeared in a Star Wars film (so probably got to experience a student diet a touch above the standard beans and noodles, then). A year after finishing Uni she won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Closer - but don’t let that be the standard you hold yourself to or anything.
Natalie gave a commencement speech to the graduating class of 2015, largely focusing on how she overcame self doubt and ‘dark moments’ when at University herself.
13. Jennifer Hudson - Langston University
Jen enrolled here in Oklahoma after graduating from Chicago’s Dunbarton Vocational Career Academy (swish) in 1999, but left after one semester due to feeling homesick (been there, girl) and finding the weather a bit grim.
She then went on to study music at Kennedy King College in Chicago, before appearing on American Idol in 2004 and changing the course of her career forever - including picking up an Academy Award in 2006 for Best Supporting Actress. The lesson learnt there is if you run away from the rain, good things will happen to you. Probably.
