It has been equally full of highs and lows...

WOW. It’s been a long ol’ year hasn’t it? And tbh, it’s been kind of a downer is some ways. From sexual abuse allegations to terrorist attacks, you wouldn’t be blamed for wanting to see the back of 2017. But amidst the sadness there have been rays of hope from the #MeToo campaign when women all over the world bound together to speak up to more reality star pregnancy announcements than you can shake a stick at.

And of course, Instagram was there to break the news, give us a platform to cry and to lol, and gift us the photos that have defined 2017…

1. Donald Trump becomes President

On January 20th, the battle between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump came to an end as Trump was announced as the President of the United Stares. The world was devo.

2. The Oscars fail

The world of celebs GASPED when Warren Beatty announced that La La Land was the winner of Best Movie at the Oscars in February when, actually, it was Moonlight. Cue Ryan Gosling lolling and a million ‘Should have gone to Specsavers’ memes.

3. One Love Manchester

In a tragic turn of events, bombs exploded at Ariana’s Dangerous Woman gig on May 22.Ari then organised a concert One Love Manchester to raise funds for the victims, and a massive range of celebs from Coldplay to Miley Cyrus performed with her providing light in a time of sadness.

4. Beyoncé’s twins

After what felt like years of waiting, Yoncé finally debuted her twins Rumi and Sir Carter to us in a classic OTT-Beyoncé way. Duh.

5. All the reality star pregnancies

It was the year of reality star babies. From Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag to Gaz Beadle and Ferne McCann, they were all announcing they were expecting.

6. Chris and Anna Faris split

In one of the most heartbreaking celeb splits this year, Chris and Anna announced their separation on social media. Rumours flew that she couldn’t handle his massive success and soon after she had a new boyfriend. BOOOO.

7. Taylor Swift is back

After her massive beef with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Taylor disappeared off the face of the celeb earth, hiding herself away and plotting her revenge. It came in the form of a MEGA diss album, Reputation. Look what you made her do KimYe.

8. Selena Gomez's kidney transplant

After her battle with Lupus, Selena Gomez posted a heartfelt post to her best friend Francia Raisa, who had given her a kidney in September. It saved her life and she’s now the proud owner of three of them.

9. Brandon Foley comes out

After 13Reasons Why became the highlight of all our Summers, the cast became instant celebs. After much speculation, Bradon, who plays jock Justin Foley, posted a Instagram calling for equality before coming out as gay. He’s now dating Sam Smith and we’re obsessed.

10.Kylie Jenner's 'bump'

As reports surfaced that Kylie Jenner was pregnant, fans waited patiently on her Insta for a sign that it was true. A few days later, she posted this pic, and fans declared she was hiding her stomach. From that moment on it was baggy clothes and throwback photos for Kylie. Soon after the news broke, it was rumoured that Khloe Kardashian was also pregnant and finally it was confirmed that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were expecting their third child via surrogate.

11. Gemma Collins' fall

The Mem-ay queen herself gave us one of the greatest gifts of 2017 when she was presenting an award to Love Island at the R1 Teen Awards in October. After waving to her fans, she slipped down a hatch in the stage spawning thousands of memes and the present of joy to all. No TOWIE cast were hurt in the making of this Insta.

12. Teddy Geiger comes out as Trans

Shawn Mendes’ friend and writing partner responded to a fan asking about the change in Teddy'sappearencein October. Teddy announced it was the process oftransitioning.

13. Tiffany Haddish makes history

Tiffany became the first African-American stand-up comedian to host Saturday Night Live in November joining a small pool of only twelve black women to ever have hosted the show including Octavia Spencer and Maya Rudolph.

14. Meghan Markle…

Even if you aren’t a Suits fan, you now know Megan Markle’s name along with the rest of the world. In November, the actress and Prince Harry announced they were engaged and the world rejoiced. He proposed while “roasting a chicken” and the couple will marry on May 19th 2018.

15. Australia announcemarriage equality

In November, Australia finally passed a bill making gay marriage legal and the rest of the world needs to hurry up tbh. Love is love.

16. LA wildfires

The city of Los Angeles and all the celebs who live there were shocked to see Bel Air go up in flames as wildfire spread throughout the hills of California. Terrifying.

17. Time magazine cover

To end a horrific year that uncovered a world of sexual abuse in Hollywood, Time magazine put the courageous ‘silence breakers’ Taylor Swift, Ashley Judd, lobbyist Adama Iwu who started the We Said Enough campaign, Isabel Pascual who had spoke of her terrifying stalking ordeal, and Susan Fowler who outed sexual harassment within Uber, on the cover. Taylor had finally won her case against a DJ that groped her in 2013and Ashley had been the first one to out Harvey Weinstein’s sexual abuse of over eighty women.
