FIF: Mike Will Made-It
Mike Will Made-It has won our "F**k It" Friday title this week! Here's why.
HI THERE. Welcome back to F**k It Friday - a weekly feature from MTV Breaks that’s all about saying a big “f**k yeah” to the most excellent people who’ve said “f**k it!” (probably) and taken a leap of faith to make big things happen.
Cos it’s not about just having ideas – it’s about working hard, seizing opportunity, believing in yourself, and 100% following them through!
So who’s next up in the FIF roll call of honour? Drumroll… it’s MIKE WILL MADE-IT! He’s the super producer behind chart-topping hits like Miley Cyrus’s ‘We Can’t Stop’, Kelly Rowland’s ‘Kisses Down Low’, Lil Wayne’s ‘Love Me’ and many more. He’s had 14 billboard-charting singles since 2012, and in 2013 alone he sold 10 million singles. He’s worked with everyone from Wiz Khalifa, to Jay Z, to Rihanna, to Beyoncé, and he’s the C.E.O and founder of Ear Drummer Records.
It’s safe to say he’s done pretty well for himself. But how did he make it big?
Mike (or Michael as he was known then) grew up in Atlanta, and used to play around on his older sister’s half broken keyboard because in his words, “it was just the only thing that could make a sound in the crib”. Passionate about music, he constantly listened to the radio to recreate the melodies he heard on his keyboard.
Then, when he was 14, a sales man showed him how to use a beat machine and Mike made his very first beat. The guy apparently said, “Man, that’s your first beat? For real? Damn, you should make beats, brother!”
So what did Mike say? You guessed it, he said “f**k it!” (probably) and decided he would, for a living. He convinced his dad to buy him a music production station for Christmas, saying he’d make a load of cash in the long run. He then went on to sell his beats to wannabe rappers in his local grocery store, where he was a bagger.
One time, after saying a further “f**k it!”, he handed Gucci Mane a CD of his beats in an Atlanta studio, and the pair went on to work on 20 songs in three days. Mike became a credible producer, and Gucci christened him with his producer name, ‘Mike Will Made-It’. Soon, he was working with all the important names in Atlanta, and the rest is history!
Mike is a perfect example of someone who made it big by saying two words – “f**k it!” (probably). He was passionate about making music, and did everything he could to make his dream a reality. That’s why Mike Will Made-It has made it onto the “f**k it” throne this week, and we can’t think of anyone better suited to rule over “F**k It” Land.
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!
