No iPhone 7 but here's all the details on Apple's iOS 10 update and messaging changes. Read in full at MTV.co.uk
There’s big news from the world of Apple today after they dropped a whole load of big reveals about a bunch of updates that are coming to their products.
The biggest changes (read: the ones you're gonna care most about) are coming to the Messages app, but if you want to know what to expect when they are rolled out, we’ve rounded up everything you need to get ahead of the game right now.
1. Smart emojis are coming to your texts
Scrolling for days to find the perfect emoticon is no more and with the new smart emoji feature, you’ll just be able to type your message as normal and the keyboard will suggest appropriate emojis to help illustrate. It sounds sort of like predictive text, but hopefully won’t be quite as annoying as getting ‘fatter’ every time you mean to write ‘happier’.
2. Can’t be bothered to text? Draw your message instead
Seemingly taking the lead from the success of Snapchat, iMessage will now have a function that allows you to draw and handwrite a response to your texts AND – even better - you can draw or write on top of photos too.
3. You can now make texts even more shouty
Really want to get the message across? You can now make the bubble of text in Messages bigger or smaller to make responsives more emotional and show if you’re whispering or SHOUTING REALLY LOUDLY.
4. Surprise messages are a thing
Forgot to get your pal a bday card? Then make it up to them with the ‘surprise’ message function that sends your message, pic or drawing concealed behind a blurred layer. They then swipe to reveal what’s underneath and it’s all very dramatic and exciting.
5. Siri is coming to your MAC
If you’re too lazy to type into google on your laptop, Siri will now be on hand to help you out, plus she’ll have upgraded abilities you don’t get on your phone and tablet too.
6. Learn to code
If you dream of learning to code, here’s your chance as Apple also announced they will be launching the new Swift Playgrounds app, which will teach you Apple’s Swift programming language, all from the comfort of your own iPad. It’s actually for kids and is meant to make it second nature to them, so it’s perfect for all you technophobes who want to get with the times, too.
7. iOS 10 is coming
Another upgrade to your operating system is on its way but it’s worth knowing about now as it looks amazing. New features include all the messaging upgrades but also a new lock screen format, a new Photos app, a new Maps upgrade and a revamp of Apple Music.
8. The Apple Watch is getting upgraded
If you’re an Apple Watch fan then the good news is you’re getting an upgrade of operating system in the form of watchOS 3. It’ll make operating much smoother and get rid of the annoying lag it currently has when you try and open. There’s also two new watch faces (including a Minnie Mouse one) and a fancy SOS feature so you can call for help and they’ll know exactly where you are.
The update is also all about fitness and wellness. It will introduce the Breathe app, which encourages users to take moments in their day to do deep breathing sessions. Then there’s an up date to the Activity app, optimising it for wheelchair users and introducing wheelchair specific workouts.
