John Green and Sprinkle of Glitter Lead Vloggers Speaking Out About The Refugee Crisis

Yay Team Internet.

Millions of subscribers? Check. Book deal? Check. Glamorous lifestyle? Double check. We reckon it must be pretty amazing being a full-time superstar vlogger, so we’re overwhelmed with glee that these awesome icons are speaking out about an incredibly important issue – the European refugee crisis.

Rather than posting their usual hauls, GRWMs or Q&A videos, these three awesome YouTubers have taken the time to talk directly to their fans about the situation in Europe, and we love them for that.

John Green

The author of The Fault In Our Stars has never shied away from addressing sensitive topics on VlogBrothers, the channel that he runs with his brother Hank, frequently talking to their 2.6 million subscribers about everything from education to poverty.

His recent video “Understanding the Refugee Crisis in Europe, Syria, and around the World” acknowledges the way we’ve all been ignoring the situation for a while now, and calmly explains why things have to change. Now.

He also describes the very important difference between migrants and refugees, and encourages his viewers to take time out of their days to donate whatever they can. Take a look:

Sprinkle Of Glitter

“I do not know how to start a serious video at all…I’m just so upset.”

Louise Pentland is officially the glitteriest person on the internet. Her gorgeous blog and YouTube channel cover interior design, DIY, fashion, beauty and, of course, being

Mummy to her Baby Glitter, Darcy. You may also know her as Zoella’s best chummy, and the owner of the raddest pink ponytail we’ve ever seen.

Last week she shared an emotional video on her vlog channel, titled “Sprinklerinos Can Help Syrian Refugees”, where she sent out a moving plea to her fans to stop avoiding the news and to try relate to those who’ve lost their homes and their lives.

“Rather than just sitting here upset, there are ways to help”, she told her 1 million followers, “If you were going to buy my book or my clothing line this weekend, don’t. Just take that money and put it towards the Syrians”. What a powerful gesture.

LLYMLRS

Proving that you don’t need to plan important messages, British fashion blogger and vlogger Lily Melrose addressed the issue from the front seat of her car in a recent vlog.

“Refugees have no choice but to leave their homes”, she explained, pointing her subscribers to links where they can donate money, clothes, shoes and tents.

Lily later tweeted that she’d had a bunch of negative comments from viewers about her decision to talk about the crisis, but that hasn’t put her off. If anything, she’s just talking about it more loudly than before. What a badass.

Don’t forget that you can help too – head to www.refugeeswelcome.mtv.com to find out how, and tweet using #refugeeswelcome.
