“Peegasms” Are Becoming A Trend That Could Really Damage Your Health

The whole thing is just bizarre.

Online trends always get a bit weird and this one is no exception. Yep, it looks like good old masturbation is out the window and ‘peegasms’ are officially in.

The craze began after a Reddit user posed the question, ‘Ladies, do any of you get mini orgasms from peeing after holding it in?’ on the discussion site.

Let's talk porn with Hannah Witton >>>

And we’ve all been there; in a public space without access to a toilet, stuck on the tube after drinking too much coffee in the morning or even waking up in the middle of the night bursting for a wee.

What we're saying is, you've probably experienced the ‘peegasm’ – the relief after being able to finally get yourself to the loo after needing to wee for way too long.

But people have officially turned this normal everyday experience into an online sex craze. Obvs. And it’s just bizarre.

The ‘peegasms’ or ‘piss shivers’, as the world wide web is calling it (hilarious), are meant to mimic the feeling of an actual orgasm when you build up enough urine for you to feel a overriding sense of relief when you release it.

And just an FYI, this doesn’t, at any point, get less weird.

This trend has gone so viral that doctors have begun to speak up in order to advise the people on the web trying this sex craze out, to stop. Apparently, it can cause serious health risks.

All right guys we talked about orgasms, now let’s talk about peegasms. What’s a peegasm, you ask? Well the Internet is buzzing about a Reddit thread about a woman who told her boyfriend that she had a mini orgasm after peeing on a full bladder. He went on to say she achieves them regularly, even doing Kegels while peeing to enhance the feeling so she ends up with sensations that "leave her lightheaded and off balance. This is a no judgement zone and I certainly don’t hold back when it comes to period talks, intercourse and orgasms. But let’s talk about why holding pee is not in your bladders best interest. The bladder is an organ that holds urine until it’s ready to be excreted. The muscle in your bladder wall is called the detrusor muscle. The detrusor muscle relaxes to allow your bladder to fill. When you go to the toilet, it contracts to squeeze out urine. Below your bladder there is a hammock of muscles known as the pelvic floor that supports the bladder, bowels and the uterus/prostate. _____ When your bladder is about half full, it activates the nerves in your bladder. These nerves signal your brain to give you the urge to urinate. The brain then signals the bladder to hold on until it’s time to urinate. Holding your pee involves consciously fighting this signal to urinate. Hopefully you can see why doing that would cross some “wires”. As most of my patients have a degree of pain and central sensitization, intentionally doing this could make it much worse or contribute to urinary dysfunctions such as urinary urgency, frequency and retention. As you can see a lot goes into making the bladder work properly and getting it to work the way it should take a lot of training. As you have probably heard, holding your urine for too long can cause urinary tract infections. Well this happens only if bacteria enters the bladder, sits inside and then multiplies before it is emptied. This is more common in women as they have a shorter urethra then males. So ladies keep the area clean, and empty those bladders every 3 hours. You should wait for the 2nd or 3rd urge so your bladder has a chance to fill and appropriately train your bladder to trigger the correct signal!

Dr. Tayyaba Ahmed posted on Instagram regarding the trend, and as someone who specialises in pelvic rehabilitation, we're going to take her advice on this one.

In the post, when discussing why holding in your pee is bad for your bladder, she said: “holding your urine for too long can cause urinary tract infections.”

And if you’ve ever had a UTI, you know it isn’t fun, so let’s nip this craze in the bud and just stick to the good old-time tradition of masturbation.
