Real Life Fault In Our Stars Wife Dies Just Five Days After Husband
Some tragic news this week after Katie and Dalton Prager both passed away due to complications from their respective battles with cystic fibrosis.
Katie's mother Debbie shared the news of her daughter's passing on Facebook, which happened just five days after Dalton's death, describing it as 'peaceful'.
She was 26-years-old.
"Dalton was waiting with open arms, as well as both her grandmother's and a host of family and friends that have gone before her," Debbie wrote. "I know it is selfish to be sad, I had her so many days, but she is in the arms of Jesus today and she can breathe without oxygen, she no longer has to do dialysis and He has taken away all the pain she endured."
The couple, whose relationship they compared to best-selling John Green book The Fault In Our Stars, married in 2011 when they were 20.
Having met online when they were in high school, they soon fell in love and decided to tie the knot despite warnings from doctors that Katie could catch the rare and contagious strain of infection Dalton already suffered due to his cystic fibrosis.
Unfortunately Katie did end up contracting the infection and while the pair each received lung transplants in 2014 and 2015, both sadly began to fail due to complications.
The couple celebrated their fifth anniversary in July, which was to be the last time they saw each other in person as Dalton went into hospital in St. Louis while Katie was receiving treatment in Kentucky.
Just a day before Dalton died, Katie told CNN that she has no regrets: "It gave me some of the best years of my life.
"I'd rather have five years of being in love and just really completely happy than 20 years of not having anybody."
