Social Media Reacts To Article's Claim That 'Boobs Are Back'
And in today's breaking boob news...
Ladies all around the world can breathe a sigh of relief this morning as finally the moment we have all been waiting for has arrived. Yes, you've guessed it: boobs are BACK, people.
Now, if you're wondering where exactly boobs had gone in the first place then you aren't alone. In fact we're pretty sure they were down our top this whole entire time.
Still, this comes from a recent article in the New York Post and The Sun that ran with the headline 'Boobs Are Back In A BIG Way', and while both appear to have made this claim unironically, the internet has reacted in a truly heroic fashion to bring a little reality check to such a bizarre statement.
Before we get on to the lol responses that you'll want to immediately retweet, there are several things to think about off the back of this. While it's pretty great to realise that the people of Twitter are totally your people and together in this, it's probably also worth bearing in mind that this is yet another fairly depressing example of just how screwed up our society's attitude towards women's bodies really is.
In the article, the writer says that 'bountiful boobs are back in style,' as though boobs - a natural part of our body we have literally no control over - could have ever gone out of fashion in the first place.
The pressure to look a certain way is a constant that comes from the idea that women should constantly be policing their appearance to please others, and particularly to please men. The irony is that you can't win: you're too fat or too thin, your boobs are too big, too small - and with the article going on to compare and contrast the bodies of Cara Delevingne and Rihanna, it's a pretty problematic example of how damaging the implication that one body type is better than another really is.
And while there is some pretty valid criticism of the article, the inevitable jokes about us all having lost our boobs were pretty funny too.
There is a big difference between a body part and a shoe style, so please stop telling us which parts of our bodies are and are not hot this season, k?
