The Speech Olly From Years & Years Was Going To Give If They Won A Brit Is All Kinds Of Awesome
Despite being nominated for British Group, British Breakthrough, British Single AND British Artist Video, unfortunately this week Years & Years didn’t take home any BRITs.
We’re not only upset about this because Years & Years are amazing and we’re a bit obsessed with them, now we have another reason; frontman Olly Alexander’s speech was going to be SO empowering.
Today he tweeted a picture of the “rad rainbow necklace” he wore to the BRITs along with a snippet of the speech that never was on LGBT+ History Month:
“This month is LGBT+ history month, many of us -myself included , we owe a huge amount to the people that have gone before us, we owe many of our freedoms to the people who fought for our rights, who struggled through so much in the ongoing fight for equality", the singer posted.
"Those people, along with my friends and family in the wider community today, they are my heroes, they inspire me every day, they make me proud to be part of a community that celebrates diversity and fights for equality for all. They make me proud to be gay.”
He also announced that he’ll be donating said rad necklace to LGBT equality campaign Stonewall for them to “do something nice with”, so EYES PEELED.
We love this, you’ve won the award of our hearts Olly, that’s all that really matters…right?
