11 Things You’re Totally Going to be Talking About in 2016
Gotta talk about something while we wait for 1D to come back...
2015 was a pretty unpredictable year; Kanye annouced his presidency, Kim broke the internet and for some reason everybody started freaking out over the colour of a dress. So really, who knows what wonderous things 2016 has in store for us but here are some things that are deffo (probably) happening that we're super excited about!
P!nk as the new UNICEF ambassador for 2016
Okay so P!nk may not have been top of the charts for a while, but in no way is she off the radar - she is just busy fighting national child hunger, that’s all, in her usual kick-ass way. We think she’s going to rock this new role, and we can’t wait to hear about it!
Ariana Grande’s MAC Viva Glam lipstick collection (January 2016)
Ari is the new spokeswoman for the MAC Viva Glam collection for 2016! She is one of a line of fabulous female celebs (including Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga) to support MAC’s Viva Glam range, which donates 100% of its proceeds to the MAC AIDS fund to help people affected by HIV and AIDS. Ariana’s very own Viva Glam lippy range is due to hit the shops in January, and we have a sneaky suspicion that she’s got a treat in store for us!
Super Bowl (February 2016)
The 50th anniversary of Super Bowl next year in Santa Clara is aiming to be the most giving it’s ever been. A quarter of the money given by corporate sponsors (more than $10 million!) will go to their charity arm, the 50 fund, which helps Bay Area families in low income communities. (Also there are rumours of Taylor Swift and Britney playing half-time, so there’s that too).
New York Fashion Week (February 2016)
We can’t believe this has happened already but for next year’s NYFW Rihanna has her debut show! Her ready-to-wear collection has been added to the line-up and, better yet, she’s auctioning tickets to her show to raise money for her own charity, the Clara Lionel Foundation. (ALSO RIHANNA's NEXT ALBUM WILL BE OUT NEXT YEAR...probabaly)
The release of new documentary ‘A Beautiful Planet’ (April 2016)
The release date of ‘A Beautiful Planet’ will be a week after ‘Earth Day’, a day that celebrates the Earth and makes us think about how best we can protect it. We’re expecting this collaboration between Disney and IMAX, made with the help of NASA, to be a real eye-opener. Spoiler alert – there may or may not be real footage filmed by astronauts on board the International Space Station involved…
Leonardo DiCaprio’s next charity event (July 2016)
Is there anything Leo can’t do? In July, his second annual fundraising gala raised over $40 million, all for his private charity LDF (The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation). LDF is dedicated to protecting endangered species and habitats and finding solutions to environmental issues. At the gala earlier this year, Elton John performed some impromptu numbers, the likes of Kate Hudson, Orlando Bloom and Heidi Klum were among Leo’s guests, and the gala auction included not merely expensive artwork but once in a lifetime experiences, such as an Arctic Expedition that sold for $1.6 million. Jackpot! We just want to know how Leo will top it in 2016.
The Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro (August 2016)
This vibrant, colourful city is the first in South America to host an Olympic Games, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! The British Olympics Association has chosen the charity Fight for Peace as one of its partners for the games, which works to encourage martial arts and boxing amongst troubled youths to prevent them from turning to a life of crime. Maybe this Newham-based charity can turn over some future Olympic boxing champs for Britain too… it’s a win-win!
The Festival of Hope (September 2016)
This festival is the biggest benefit concert series ever and aims to raise $1 billion in donations in 2016 for all sorts of causes, under the categories of health, opportunity, purpose and education (which, of course, spells out ‘hope’… now you get it!). The festival will arrive at 9 different venues in 2016 and each day has its own theme. We sense some pretty fab dressing up opportunities! It’s not one to miss.
The annual Black Ball (October 2016)
Every year Alicia Key’s co-founded charity Keep A Child Alive (KCA) puts on a fundraising ball like no other. The event raises money to help children and families living with and affected by HIV in India and Africa, and will return for its 13th year in 2016, having raised a whopping $24.9 million for the charity so far! Past performances at the ball have included the likes of Jay Z, Pharrell Williams, Adele and Justin Timberlake… Whatever the 2016 Black Ball has in store, it’s going to be big!
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s 2016 ‘find your park’ project
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s online production company hitREcord has teamed up with The National Park Service and The National Park Foundation to join the ‘find your park’ movement. HitREcord has been asking followers to send in their own artistic ideas about everything a park can be and, in 2016, Joseph will be compiling these ideas into short films, music videos, comedy sketches… you name it! It’s all in the name of protecting National Parks, and it sounds fantastic. Oh Joseph, you creative genius, you.
