This Dance Video Has A Darker Message Than You'd Expect

And it was released on Valentine's Day...

Valentine’s Day was all about celebrating the happy clappy side of relationships for most.

For Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services, however, Valentine’s Day was a good opportunity to raise awareness about what can go wrong in relationships.

Especially when there is no physical evidence of abuse.

NDA services released a stunning video of two dancers re-enacting a relationship that turns sour, where there is evidently loads of mutual love and support at the beginning but where, by the end, the man turns controlling and the women lies down completely defeated.

At the end of the dance the video states, “emotional abuse is domestic abuse” and that things like “name calling”, “manipulation” and “controlling behaviour” all fall under the category of abuse.

We absolutely LOVED the way NDA put its message across. Abusive relationships are far from simple, there is a lot of love and pain involved and being controlled emotionally, although more subtle, is very powerful.

It’s all too easy for people to assume domestic abuse is only about physical violence, but NDA is just one organisation of many who is trying to raise awareness about the true nature of abuse, so that people are better at identifying it and getting help when they see it.

'If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, NDAprovides some good guidelines on how abusers often behave, and Victim Support have some great resources if you need more info. Valentine’s Day was all about celebrating the happy clappy side of relationships for most but, for Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services, Valentine’s Day was a good opportunity to raise awareness about what can go wrong in relationships.'
