This Eco-Friendly Edible Food Packaging Will Mean You Never Have To Stop Eating
So much yes.
This whole environmental disaster thing is stressing everyone out.
Well, tbh it is quite stressful – the UN say that more than 220 MILLION tons of plastic are produced each year, the ocean contains about 46,000 pieces of floating plastic and, according to the World Economic Forum, there’ll be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050.
The good news is that there are loads of people trying to solve this big hot mess, and there’s one solution in particular that we LOVE: edible packaging.
We’ve all seen pics of dolphins and other cute AF sea creatures trapped in plastic beer rings, and plastic waste kills marine life all the time.
That’s why a company called Saltwater Brewery has been using edible six-pack rings made from wheat and barley waste (which are already left over in the beer-making process) to hold its beers together. The rings disintegrate within two hours of being in the sea so fish can’t get stuck in them.
Meanwhile researchers at the USDA (the US Department of Agriculture) have made biodegradable packaging that could replace plastic food packaging in supermarkets.
As the material is made out of a milk protein it’s edible too, meaning you don’t have to stop when the cheese ends. You can just keep on going.
Plus, if it’s used for single-use coffee or soup packaging, the whole thing can just be dropped into hot water and the packaging will dissolve, making your meal/ drink more nutritious in the process!
Edible packaging is a GREAT plan. Count us in.
Now why don't you watch some grown adults trying to find their way around a uterus?
